MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4G Overclocking

Our experience overclocking this card was a little odd. With the power limit and temperature limit both set to maximum, we added 150MHz to the core clock, giving us a new base clock of 1,529MHz (an 11 percent uplift) and a boost clock of 1,643MHz. In actuality, however, the card was boosting to 1,911MHz and maintaining this speed consistently without instability. As such, we tried 200MHz, and although the card passed our benchmarks, the speed was still reported as 1,911MHz and no extra performance was gained. With 250MHz added, the card became unstable, even though the reported speed was unchanged – it's unclear what's going on here and Nvidia hasn't responded to a request for comment.

Similarly, on the memory, we managed to overclock to 8Gbps (13 percent more than the 7.1Gbps of OC Mode) but, even when adding more speed in Afterburner, the card refused to clock beyond this level.

Whether it is a reporting error or hard limits set by Nvidia, we're not alone in this issue as multiple media outlets have observed similar behaviour. From what we can glean, this seems to be as far as GTX 1050 Ti cards can currently go, although a driver fix is apparently in the works. Either way, the GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4G happily reached these limits, and the results of some tests running at these speeds are below.
